Little Women at THE BARN THEATER

WHAT’S THE LINE FOR?

Theater is something I feel people forget about sometimes, and my friends at THE BARN THEATER plan to put an end to that. I have seen a good number of comedies and musicals there (yeah, I like musicals). If you want to be a little original on a date, and not just do dinner and a movie, check out this musical they are performing. LITTLE WOMEN (based on Louis May Alcott’s novel), is the story is Jo (Lauren Grof-Tisza), Meg (Jill Cappuccino), Beth (Lauren Dwane), and Amy March (Rachel Eddy).
The story mainly revolves around Jo, the eldest sister, who writes stories and plays for her sisters and mother, Marmee (Alice Regan-Moynahan). She is a super independent young lady, who never wants to get married, as being a writer is her priority in life. He sisters, Meg and Amy, are not quite as anti-comfort as Jo.
She is set on traveling to Europe and living in New York, which is where she will have access to publishers who can pay for her stories. Just as she gets a break in New York, she has to go home and take care of her sister, Beth, who is deathly ill.

Spoiler Alert: You might cry twice during the second act.
Ok, back to the happy parts! The music and choreography are fun and you can definitely feel it in your chair. There are two or three songs that you might end up humming to yourself after you leave the theater. I guarantee, that when Beth sings “Off to Massachusetts” heads, shoulders, and feet start moving. Plus Marmee and Joe have incredibly powerful solos. If you can’t feel Jo buy intermission, check your pulse.
And watch the sub-plot between Jo and Amy, the little sister who wants to make her way into society, yet is totally jealous of all of her older sister’s hand-me-downs. At some point you want to kill her and then later, you want to laugh at her. She’s quite a character.
And if you’re a GLEE fan, I’m sure that something Rachael has sung is in this show. But I’m not saying what.
LITTLE WOMEN is at THE BARN THEATER (Montville) from November 19th through December 4th.
